Widows and Orphans Movement (WOM) a Non-Governmental Organization in the Upper East Region has held a Career Exposure program for some youth in the informal sector.
The program targeted youth who were already engaged and those who are yet to be engaged in Dressmaking, Welding, Barbering, Tailoring, Weaving among others on abuse at work and some attitudinal challenges that hinder their progress during apprenticeship.

In partnership with Actionaid Ghana, WOM brought onboard entrepreneurs such as Professional Barber, Welder and Electrician who are well established in their respective informal spaces, as well as the Ghana Enterprise Agency as facilitators for the Career Exposure Program.
The program which was held on Friday, June 30, 2023 at the In-service Training Center in Bolgatanga created an opportunity for participants to interact with entrepreneurs and ask relevant questions pertaining their diverse fields of work.
The open forum discussions focused on the ‘dos and dons’ and other Master-Apprenticeship relations relevant to their work.

Speaking to Journalists, the Executive Director of the Movement, Abigail Fati Abdulai noted that, there have been growing concerns of laziness, eagerness to acquire quick money among others during apprenticeship while some suffer unfair treatments from their Masters at work.
She noted that, the engagement was to ensure that, youths are gainfully employed, remain and complete the process of their trades while they earn incomes as expected.
She said, “They [apprentices] should be humble, they should be ready to learn and pay attention to details. And they shouldn’t think that they can get money within the shortest possible time, but they should know it is a process”.
“At least from the feedback we are getting from them [participants], they have learned something. They have committed to changing certain attitudes as well and we are hoping that they will practically use it as they leave here”. She added.
Participants of the program expressed their excitement for the engagement, describing it as inspirational as they committed to ensuring that, they bring their experience to bear.
