PROF. DAVID MILLAR AT THE ENGAGEMENT AT THE BOLGATANGA TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY

Prof. David Millar, President of the Millar Institute for Transdisciplinary and Cultural Studies and former Pro, Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies, has attributed the high interest many Ghanaian youth have developed for politics to the desire to get rich sooner than later.

The revered professor adds that politics will score the highest if it is included in the list of jobs many young people will be interested in.

He revealed that in a class of over 800, majority of the students expressed their desire to go into politics in a bid to cruise in V8s and live their desired lives.

According to him, holding such views about employment and politics is dangerous for the progress and development of every society.

“It’s the quick need for money and if you really profile the job areas and you include politics in the list, I’m sure it will score the highest percentage. Most of the youth want to go into it,” he stated in an interview on State of Our Nation.

He added, “I tested it in a class of over 800 students. I asked them what job they want to operate after graduating. Everybody’s hand was up, saying politics. They said if they get into politics, they would driving V8s soon. And the quickest way to V8 is the political area. It’s extremely dangerous”.

He laments the lack of interest by the youth in going in for other areas like ICT.

While taking on the elderly for toying with the development of the youth and blaming the youth for not doing much to hold the government accountable, he applauded the French speaking West African Nations for breaking away from ECOWAS.

“Unfortunately, the youth are allowing us to destroy them. I must say this for the Francophone Africa, there the youth are getting wild awake. We hope they also do not get corrupted by the system and I agree with them to breakaway from ECOWAS”.
