Upper East Regional Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Elvis Figo Awonekai has vowed to unseat the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo if he is made parliamentary candidate of the NPP.
Addressing a crowd of supporters after filing his nomination to contest the NPP parliamentary primaries in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Figo said the 2024 Elections will be won on the basis of candidates’ records.
He believes he and his party have a better track record in the development of particularly the Bolgatanga Central Constituency and thus, will snatch the seat from the NDC and its candidate.
“Tell Hon. Isaac Adongo that his time is due, I’m coming for him. 2024, it is about NDC records against NPP records. And when we get to that point, we’ll beat them. We will analysis based on Bolga Central.
The roads infrastructure, what we did and what the NDC did. In every sector in Bolga Central, in every sector in Upper East Region, what NPP did, NDC have not done half of that,” he said.
He argues that unlike Mr. Adongo, who came into the scene with no known accomplishment in the area, he has been instrumental in bringing development to the constituency and creating opportunities for residents and is poised to see to the regional capital’s transformation should he get the chance to represent the people in Parliament.
“We will be analysing the records of Isaac Adongo against my record. When he came as a new entrant, the best did for his party was to tile the party’s office. When he did that, NDC members were excited and voted for him. And he has been there for 8 years”.
He continued “I’m also a new entrant, when I did my first rounds, the delegates told me they are going to vote for me because they can see the employment opportunities I have created for people in Bolga. Water has been brought to communities through my lobbying, I have used this government to bring scholarship to a lot of people”.
Figo appealed to delegates of his party to elect him as the party’s parliamentary candidate as he is the right person to end the NDC’s dominance in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency.
He also urged his supporters to be decorous in their campaign for him in order not to make any reconciliation efforts with his contenders difficult in the aftermath of the election, as he indicated he will bring them on-board to prosecute his campaign if he emerges victorious.
Except the presidential election runoff in 2000, the NPP has yet to win elections in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency.
This, political watchers say, even becomes almost impossible with the presence of Isaac Adongo.
But Figo says he has spent 12 years understudying the NDC’s campaign strategies in the area and will beat them at their own game in 2024.
