Members of the Kasena-Nankana Municipal Assembly have rejected President John Dramani Mahama’s nominee for the position of the District Chief Executive.

At a session held April 29, 2025, 72 percent of the 50 members present and voting kicked against Faustina Akeyom Abulu’s nomination as DCE for the Kasena-Nankana Municipality.

According to mikeradioonline, Only 14 members, representing 28 percent approved of her nomination but that fell far below the two-thirds majority she requires to be confirmed as DCE.

Per the Local Government Act, a DCE nominee must secure two-thirds of approval from assembly members to be appointed for the position.

But Faustina Abulu, who currently serves the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Women’s Organizer for the Navrongo Constituency, failed to garner the required votes supporting her nomination to sail through.

She is one of the only two females President John Mahama nominated as DCE in the Upper East Region, and  the second nominee to be rejected in the region since the confirmation process began early this month.

She, however, still stands a chance of making it as the assembly is required to convened in the next 10 days to hold another session to confirm her nomination.

The president, though, could withdraw her nomination.
