A communicator for the National Democratic Congress(NDC) has described a recent protest over the Bolgatanga-Bawku road as unnecessary, insisting that government had already begun addressing the problem before demonstrators took to the streets.

Michael Nangena said the section of the road near Kula had received attention, with contractors mobilized to site prior to the protest.

“The contractor was already on site and working before the demonstration,” he said during a discussion on Dreamz FM’s Breakfast Today program.

Residents staged the protest last week, citing worsening conditions on the stretch, which has long been a source of concern for commuters.

Mr Nangena acknowledged the poor state of the road but questioned the timing of the demonstration, arguing that it did not serve its intended purpose.

“Demonstrations are legitimate, but in this case, the issue had already received attention,” he said, adding that the protest may have created a misleading impression about government inaction.

He outlined previous interventions, including temporary maintenance works and efforts to re-engage the original contractor who had abandoned the project.

Mr Nangena said government remains committed to a permanent solution while managing the road to ease travel in the interim.
