BOLGATANGA CENTRAL CONSTITUENCY SECRETARY OF THE NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY (NPP), RICHARD ABAGNA

The Bolgatanga Central secretary of the New Patriotic Party has called for unity, discipline and stronger grassroots engagement as the party reorganizes following its electoral setback.

Richard Abagna, speaking on Dreamz FM’s “State of Our Nation,” said the party’s success in opposition will depend on electing committed and trustworthy leaders at the constituency level.

“In opposition, the work becomes even more demanding. You need people who are always available and ready to serve the party,” he said.

Mr Abagna, who is seeking re-election for a seventh term as constituency secretary, emphasized the importance of experience and institutional memory, describing the role as central to the party’s daily operations.

He urged delegates to prioritize candidates who are willing to “go into the trenches,” particularly youth and women organizers who can mobilize support at the community level.
According to him, internal cohesion is critical, warning that divisions among executives could weaken the party’s ability to compete effectively.

“If you have people you cannot sit together and take decisions with, it creates problems for the party,” he said, stressing the need for consensus-driven leadership.

Mr Abagna also highlighted challenges faced by party members in opposition, including alleged political pressure on public sector workers affiliated with the party.

Despite the difficulties, he expressed confidence that with the right leadership and renewed grassroots strategy, the party can rebuild and position itself strongly for future elections.
