A National Democratic Congress (NDC) communicator, Michael Nangena has called for unanimous support for the newly nominated District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bongo, warning that delays in her confirmation could stall development in the district.
Speaking on Dreamz FM, Mr Nangena urged assembly members to give Diana Asoketarige Ayamga full endorsement during her confirmation process, describing it as a way to honor the late DCE, Joseph Akasaka Abaa.
“It is the only way we should be able to allow him to rest peacefully,” Nangena said, referring to the late district leader.
He expressed confidence that the nominee would secure overwhelming support, citing consultations with assembly members.
“I know they are all resolute and the confirmation will be one-touch… it should be 100 percent,” he said.
The Bongo District has experienced a leadership gap following the death of the previous DCE, with the regional minister acting in the role. Nangena said prolonging the confirmation process would negatively affect governance and development.
“We do not need to continue to drag this confirmation… that will have implications on the development of the district,” he said.
Mr Nangena described the nominee as a capable grassroots leader who can work across political divides, adding that her selection has broad support among stakeholders.
He also referenced earlier discussions involving members of both the NDC and opposition NPP, noting consensus on her suitability for the role.
Beyond the confirmation, Nangena emphasized the need for unity among assembly members, urging them to prioritize the district’s interests over political differences.
“It should be Bongo first,” he said. “They should put the interest of the district ahead of any other consideration.”
The confirmation comes at a time when local governance in the district is under scrutiny, with stakeholders calling for stability and continuity following recent disruptions.
Mr Nangena said a smooth and decisive endorsement would help restore momentum and allow the incoming DCE to focus on addressing key development needs.
