Former Bolgatanga Municipal GNAT Chairman Charles Atakibire Ateem says some men avoid relationships with certain independent women because they perceive them as arrogant.

Speaking on Dreamz FM’s “Breakfast Today” program, Mr Ateem said society tends to criticize some career women because of their attitudes and approach toward relationships and family life.

“Some of them are just arrogant and some are very humble,” he said.

Mr Ateem noted that although many educated and financially independent women maintain healthy homes, others are viewed negatively because they allegedly prioritize careers over relationships.

He said this perception contributes to fears among some men about marrying highly independent women.

The male rights advocate cited an example of a female bank manager whose treatment of her husband allegedly caused difficulties within the marriage.

“I know of a woman who was a bank manager and subjected the husband to serious trauma,” Mr Ateem claimed.

Despite his criticism, Mr Ateem acknowledged that some working women, including professionals such as midwives, successfully combine careers with family responsibilities.
He said society still expects women to balance professional success with traditional family roles.

The radio discussion focused on growing debates around modern womanhood, marriage expectations and changing gender roles in Ghanaian society.
