Vice Chancellor of the Bolgatanga Technical University, Professor Samuel Erasmus Alnaa, is confident that the 10-year strategic plan launched by the university will help give the institution a new direction.
It would be recalled that the University in May 2021 set up an 8-member Strategic Planning Committee with the specific task of developing a 10-year plan which encompasses a 5-year short-term development plan.
The plan, launched on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, is to help quicken efforts to propel the university’s development since it is desirous of beating off competition and also becoming competitive globally.
Having obtained the status of a technical university in April 2020, managers of the Bolgatanga Technical University saw the need to develop a plan that will help reposition the university for the better.
It is the hope of the university authorities to become the preferred technical university with innovative academic programmes, producing graduates equipped with new technological skills for sustainable development through the provision of career-focused education, using state-of-the-art laboratories and workshops for teaching, practical training, applied research, sustainable agricultural and entrepreneurship development in a conducive environment.
As part of the 2023-2032 10-year strategic plan, the university is desirous of reaching out to a large number of artisanal and small-scale industries such as building, construction, electrical, mechanical, and electronic manufacturing enterprises, whose activities are characterized by poor practices and negative effects to the eco-system and carry out research and assist these artisans and small-scale businesses to adopt best practices.
It is on this score that Prof. Alnaa said the plan will help the university achieve excellence and train students to have an in-depth understanding of the world.
“We are delighted to present to you, the Bolgatanga Technical University strategic plan for 2023-2032 which specifies the strategic direction and goals which have been pinned down to help the university realize its vision. It gives us the opportunity to conduct a SWOT analysis to determine the challenges ahead and also outlines strategies to respond to the changing needs of the institution and to ensure we drive industrialization through TVET.
Our strategies seek to increase access, enhance quality, improve Financing and ensure effective governance and management
We want to help the students have an in-depth understanding of the world.” He stated.
On the part of the Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, who launched the strategic plan, the university should position itself to solve local problems.
“Let us design a strategy for solving our problems. Whether it is regional or as a country. I will say, I want to see Bolgatanga Technical University, researching, designing, and solving our local problems.” He admonished.
