Former Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Catherine Ablema Afeku says flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen’s position on the ballot for the super delegates conference is a divine confirmation of him as the party’s next presidential candidate.
Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Joy FM, Madam Afeku, who is a spokesperson for the flagbearer aspirant, said the former Trades Minister had in previous primaries always come second after president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
This, she asserted, was a signal to Mr. Kyerematen to wait for president Akufo-Addo to run for the presidency before him.
Madam Afeku said the Wednesday’s balloting, which placed Mr. Kyerematen on the second spot, is an affirmation that he is next in line to lead the party when the president leave the stage.
“Our Excellency retires December 2024, the batton will be shifted to the one who has always been second to him. Not to any other person. But he is ready in the spiritual realm to be the next to lead. Number 2 means you’re going to one”.
She added, “If you look at the calibre of people contesting, they are very astute and very ready, all of them deserve it. But the person who is next to lead has been affirmed and confirmed by the balloting”.
The NPP yesterday held balloting for its flagbearer hopefuls ahead of the super delegates conference scheduled to come off on August 26, 2023.
The conference is expected to trim the number of aspirants down to 5.
At the end of the balloting, which was held at the party’s headquarters in Accra, MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong picked the first spot followed by Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, who placed second while Vice-President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia took the 10th position, placing at the bottom.
