Former parliamentary candidate aspirant of the National Democratic Congress for Nabdam Constituency, Lamtiig Apanga says the party is unfazed by the two persons vying for the governing party’s ticket in the constituency.
Mr. Lamtiig said regardless of whom the New Patriotic Party elects as its parliamentary candidate for the constituency, the NDC will maintain the seat in 2024.
The governing party, he stated, has been abysmal in its stay in office hence, strengthening the NDC’s dominance in the area.
“We have no fears about the NPP and whoever they are bringing and even with the abysmal performance of this government, even if they want to make Bawumia the parliamentary candidate in Nabdam, he will not win and so there’s no hope for the NPP in Nabdam”.
Mr. Lamtiig added that despite the fact that the Upper East Regional Chairman and Organiser of the NPP hail from the Constituency, it does not stand chance of winning the seat in next year’s poll.
“You know that in the last election, the Regional Chairman of the NPP comes from Nabdam but that didn’t make a difference.
And even now, the threat may be that the Regional Chairman comes from Nabdam again, the Regional Organizer of the NPP also comes from Nabdam and he is in the race but it will not change anything”.
He, however, said the NDC will not take anything for granted and will work hard to solidify its strength in the area.
The NPP has won the Nabdam seat just once in 2012 with its then candidate, Boniface Gambila.
Mr. Gambila, however, lost the seat in the 2016 polls and was also unsuccessful in his attempt for a comeback in 2020.
He has since hanged his boots, paving way for two young men to vie for the governing party’s ticket.
Paul Wooma and Charles T. Ndanbon, who is the Regional Organiser, will slug it out in the NPP primary in the constituency for a mandate of the party to represent it in the 2024 Elections.
But the NDC says none of them is a threat to their dominance of the constituency.
