HARUNA MUSHA KALAMULAI

Parliamentary Aspirant of the National Democratic Congress in the Pusiga Constituency in the Upper East Region, Haruna Musha Kalamulai, said the party’s very slim victory margin of 63 votes in the 2020 elections is undeserving.

Speaking to Dreamz News moments after his vetting, Mr. Kalamulai, a Physician Assistant explains that the slim margin is not matching the status of the party in the constituency.

In his view, the least for the NDC is a 9000-vote margin as he thinks strongly believes diminishing return is setting in on the incumbent MP, hence making her loose popularity.

In the 2020 elections, the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama polled 20,427 votes representing 60.87% while the NPP’S Nana Akufu-Addo obtained 12,606 votes representing 37.57%

This means that for the presidential, the NDC beat the NPP by a voter margin of 7,821.

In the parliamentary election, the incumbent, Laadi Ayii Ayamba obtained 14,929 votes representing 42.31% while the parliamentary candidate for the NPP in the Pushiga Constituency, Abdul-Karim Zanni Dubiure, polled 14,866 votes representing 42.13%.

This means that the NPP lost by 63 votes, a margin the NPP candidate is contesting in court.

It is on this score that Mr. Kalamulai believes the constituency deserves better and is therefore hoping delegates of the party will give him the opportunity to turn the fortunes of the party in the constituency around.

“We are going into this contest because we believe that the good people of Pushiga don’t deserve to win with a margin of 63. The people need development, and we need to reunite the party and win with a bigger margin. This is not deserving in terms of NDC in Pushiga. Usually, our least is 9,000. I don’t understand why it should be 63 and I feel that the incumbent is unpopular and I think she has done her part and there is diminishing return and she needs to step aside for others like me to take over.” He said.
