Social commentator, Richard Adongo says Vice-President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has no record in the Upper East Region to campaign on if he is elected flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party.

Speaking on State of Our Nation on Wednesday, Mr. Adongo said the Vice-President and the NPP government have not undertaken any significant project in the region ever since they came into office.

He said while Dr. Bawumia is facilitating massive development in his home region, he has completely neglected the Upper East Region despite the numerous promises made by him and the NPP.

“If the Vice-President should come here to campaign, what can he tell us that he, as Vice-President, lobbied to get it done?. But go to the North East Region and look at the qualities of roads around there”.

“Go to Walewale township, look at the roads and look at the quality and quantum of bitumen there. Are we saying we don’t deserve those kinds of roads in Bolga? In the last 3 to 5 years, how many kilometers of bitumen or asphalt roads do we have in town? But Go to Walewale, Nalerigu and check”.

He added that the government has also abandoned the few projects it had initiated, leaving the region with no developmental project since it took over the reigns of governance.

Mr. Adongo believes the NPP’s nonchalant attitude towards the developmental concerns of the Upper East Region is the reason the region continue to reject the party in elections.

“If even it is the case that perhaps we are not dancing to the tune of the NPP, it’s not neglect that will make the region dance to that tune. Our bridge here, what have they done to it? Do you know how these people campaigned with it severally?

When John Mahama came and messed it and never got it done, they lambasted him and then came and made promises of fixing the bridge. They brought contractors, where the contractors?”.

He argued that for the party to woo voters in the region to its side, it will have to demonstrate that it is committed to addressing the needs of residents and not wait till electioneering period to initiate development.

He said residents of Upper East are discerning and will not fall for any charade initiative by the NPP to vote for it.

“As usual they are waiting for a year or 6 months to elections and they will mobilize contractors there to fool us  to vote for you and if we see through your skins and we don’t vote for you, you say we don’t vote you”.
