The dream by incumbent Member of Parliament for Bongo Constituency Edward Abambire Bawa to be elected to parliament for the third time has been dashed.
He was beaten by private legal practitioner Lawyer Charles Bawadua in the party’s parliamentary primaries held on Saturday May 13, 2023.
Lawyer Charles Bawadua polled 535 votes to emerge winner in the internal contest. Edward Bawa got 509 votes while former Regional Minister Prof. Avea Nsoh got 75 votes.
The Bongo Constituency over the years has been one of the safest parliamentary seats for the National Democratic Congress in the Upper East Region.
Edward Bawa took over from Albert Abongo in 2017 as Member of Parliament and proceeded to retain the seat in the 2020 elections.
A bid to seek a third term in office has been crashed.
