A Midwife at the Bolgatanga Municipal Health Directorate in the Upper East Region, Mary Azika is cautioning women against inserting chemicals, herbs and garlic into their vagina in an attempt to make it tight.

Madam Azika was part of a panel that discussed adolescent reproductive health on Dreamz Fm.  She noted that such practices are unhealthy and can lead to complications and in the worst-case, death.

There is a craze for chemicals and herbs that purport to tighten the vagina for the purposes of sexual satisfaction. The rush for these products has seen manufacturers inundate social and some traditional media platforms with advertisement hoping to reach out to prospective clients.

In line with her duty as a midwife, Madam Azika revealed that she saw garlic, a vegetable used in cooking in the vagina of a client. According to her, a man who wants a tight vagina does not know anything about sex.

The health practitioner who has been at the center of reproductive health education in the municipality said the vagina naturally cleanses itself of dirt and does not even require washing with soap hence, her call on women to desist from using chemicals and other items that people claim to be tightening one’s vagina.

For many women, maintaining a tight vagina is desirable during love making and will go a long way to help maintain a healthy relationship, a notion, Madam Mary Azika, said is fueled by ignorance.

“People start inserting so many things into their vagina. We have people who go round communities to sell certain things for these our young girls, these our women, claiming that they want the vagina to be tight so that they can enjoy sex. It washes itself; the vagina doesn’t smell. If it is smelling then it means there is a problem. People start inserting things. I ever saw garlic in somebody’s vagina. Garlic that we eat” She exclaimed.

The craze for tight vagina she explained has caught up with teenagers who are equally bent on maintaining a tight vagina as she called on individuals with abnormal discharge to seek proper medical care.
