Director-General of Operations for the Ghana Police, COP George Alex Mensah has described the Inspector-General of Police, George Akuffo-Dampare as the worst IGP the country has ever had.
COP Alex Mensah, who made his first appearance before the committee probing the alleged plot to oust Dr. Akuffo-Dampare, yesterday accused the IGP of mismanaging the affairs of the police service.
According to him, many police officers are disgruntled due to the current state of affairs of the service.
Making his second appearance before the committee today, he reiterated his claim against Dr. Dampare, adding that he is the worst IGP he has ever encountered since he entered the police service.
He told the committee that he had, on several occasions, drew the attention of the IGP to his failures as head of the institution but he (Dr. Dampare) has been adamant.
“What I said yesterday, if you give me the chance today, I will say so again. He is not managing the police service well. And for me, for the 31 years that I have been in the service, I can tell you he is the worst IGP we’ve had in this country,” he told the committee.
COP Alex Mensah was captured in a leaked tape allegedly plotting with two other police officers and a former Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bugri Naabu to oust the IGP.
The content of the leaked tape generated wide public concerns with many calling for a probe into the matter.
Parliament, subsequently, set up an ad hoc committee chaired by MP for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta-Akyea to investigate the issue.
Bugri Naabu, who was the first to appear before the committee, confirmed the authenticity of the tape, stating that he had recorded it to protect the interest of his party.
He also named COP Alex Mensah and two other officers as the personnel who were captured in the tape conversing with him about plans to remove Dr. Akuffo-Dampare.
COP Alex Mensah, who made his debut appearance before the committee yesterday, also confirmed the voice attributed to him as his but stated that the tape has been doctored.
