Dr. Samuel Akonga has called for strict supervision and guaranteed funding for development projects announced across the Upper East Region, warning against stalled or uncompleted initiatives.

Speaking on Dreamz FM’s “State of Our Nation,” Dr Akonga said recent project launches by lawmakers were encouraging but cautioned that some could remain unfulfilled without proper oversight.

“If those projects are not phantom projects, then it is good,” he said, referring to concerns that some initiatives announced by politicians are not executed.

He noted that while Members of Parliament from the National Democratic Congress have begun cutting sod for projects in several constituencies, including schools and infrastructure, effective supervision remains critical.

Dr Akonga alleged that some projects being promoted by MPs may originate from assembly-level planning rather than direct lobbying efforts.

“Whether they lobbied for them or not, it is good,” he said. “But they must ensure there is ready funding and proper supervision.”

He also praised growing civic engagement among youth in the region, saying increased public demand for accountability could help drive development.

“For far too long we have been quiet,” he said. “Now the youth are demanding what is due them.”

Dr Akonga added that continued pressure from citizens would compel leaders to deliver on promises and improve infrastructure, particularly road networks in the region.
