The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency has taken on the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government for preaching virtues but practicing what they say are vices.
A statement issued by the Constituency Deputy Communication Officer, Aboyom Job said, while the government is seeking to support a military intervention in Niger to restore democratic governance, it has, since its assumption of office, been superintending over pervasive corruption and abuse of human rights contrary to the principles of democracy.
Making references to the killing of 8 people during the 2020 Elections and alleged cases of corruption by government officials, the party said Ghanaians have lost faith in democratic rule due to the mismanagement of the affairs of the country by the Akufo-Addo government.
This, they said, was evident in an opinion poll conducted by Global Info Analytics.
“Take a look at the atrocities committed in the course of Akufo Addo’s administration under a democracy and compare that to the military junta in recent years. Under him 8 lives perished in a general elections, under him lives were lost and people maimed in a by-election, journalist ran away from their jobs and others died,” they stated.
“Akufo Addo and his appointees are preaching virtues and practising vices. No day passes in our country now without the mention of a new scandal in town. It is as if these have become a new normal in our society”.
The government had agreed to a decision by sub-regional bloc, ECOWAS for a military intervention in Niger to restore constitutional rule and pledged to contribute troops to that regard.
But an opinion poll conducted by Global Info Analytics indicate that 52 percent of the populace were against the government’s decision.
