UPPER EAST YOUTH MOVEMENT PRESENTS SOLIDARITY STATEMENT TO REGIONAL POLICE COMMAND

Pressure group, Upper East Youth Movement have alleged that elements in high authority had attempted to prevent the Upper East Regional Police Command from meeting them and receiving their petition.

The group, on Friday, August 18, 2023, embarked on what they termed as a “Peaceful Solidarity Walk” to express their appreciation to Media Without Boarders for its investigation that uncovered the stealing of drugs at the Regional Hospital and to equally demonstrate their satisfaction with the police’s responsiveness in getting the suspects arrested.

It was also to caution influential persons against  interfering in ongoing investigations into the matter as they alleged some unseen forces were attempting to stall prosecution of the suspects.

They walked through the principal streets of the regional capital holding placards with various inscriptions that conveyed their message and ended the march at the Regional Police Headquarters where the presented a petition to the police.

But speaking in an interview on Breakfast News on Tuesday, organiser of the group, Solomon Gbenka alleged that there were attempts by some powerful individuals to stop the police from meeting them and receiving their petition.

The police, he said, however, stood their grounds and gave them a warm welcome.

“There were calls here and there for them not to accept us but later, I think the police hierarchy had to turn all those calls down and ushered us in  and we presented our petition,” he stated.

While commending the police for not succumbing to the pressure, Mr. Gbenka indicated the group’s resolve to see to it that such persons do not interfere in the investigation and prosecution of the suspects.

“Whiles we sending the signal to them, they were also firing us back. But at the end, they got our message very clear that we are not a group that we will relent on some of these things and the police had to turn down,” he said.

“And we are so happy about the professional way the police is acting on issues that concern the development of the region
