Flag-bearer hopeful of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong says he will be decorous in his conduct if he becomes president of the country.
Mr. Agyapong is known in the political space for his unguarded comments and verbal attacks on his opponents and anyone who crosses his path.
Tagged as maverick, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency has, on countless occasions, launched vile attacks against others mostly on his media platforms and in some instances, incite violence against especially journalists.
Such instigations led to the killing of investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein Suale in 2019. But the politician cum businessman appeared unrepentant and in 2021 on his TV station, called for the beating of another journalist, Erastus Asare Donkor and said that he would have ensured he was mercilessly beaten if he were the president of Ghana.
But speaking in an interview on Citi TV on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, Mr. Agyapong said he will change for the better if he becomes president.
He stated that although he is vengeful and respond in equal measure when he is attacked, the Office of the President places a responsibility on him to be guarded in his action and carry himself well so as to reflect his status as leader of the country.
He said he is already positioning for the huge responsibility and thus, has toned down his utterances in public domain.
“When you are president, you are a leader for your country and you represent your country. You cannot be talking like that and I will ignore most of them.
I’m not even going to comment. Off late, you have watched whatever behaviour I put up, there are a lot of insults here and there but I just ignore them”.
