Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has pledged to transform the 5 regions of the North if he is made flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party and ultimately, become president.

Mr. Agyapong asserted that  people of the North have no reason to be poor given the abundance of resources there.

He believes lack of commitment and vision on the part of leadership have accounted for the underdevelopment of the area and the poor living conditions of the people and therefore, pledged to change the situation if he is made Ghana’s leader.

“I am going to change this place for the Southerners also to come to the North and look for jobs. Because God has given you arable lands, the lands are so flat,” he stated in an interview on A1 Radio in Bolgatanga.

This, he stated, will be done through promotion of agriculture and industrialisation.

He noted that the 5 regions have arable lands and would produce enough food to feed the entire country.

He added that he will ensure industrialisation of the country so that surplus from the agricultural activities will be processed into finished products for exportation.

“We will revamp meat factories and show the people of the North how to run these businesses so that we will not be dependent on other countries. So if you use Builsa North or South to produce rice in large quantities, even if we are not able to export, we will consume it and when we are consuming, we save 700 million dollars”.

He continued, “Any company coming to buy our soya beans from the North will have to set up a processing plant, if not, we are not selling. That’s the only way we can empower the people of the North”.

Mr. Agyapong believes this will curb poverty in these regions and propel their development.
