Upper East Regional Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Donatus Akamukre says the party is not aware of any incident of vote-buying that occurred during its recently held parliamentary and presidential primaries in the region.

Despite the numerous reports of such incidents in the May 13 primaries, Mr. Akamukre stated that leadership of the party has not gotten hold of any prove of inducement of delegates by aspirants and therefore, cannot act on the matter.

“W are saying that we do not have that information on that (vote buying) and that’s why we cannot act on it”.

The party’s Regional Secretary said this while reacting to allegation of vote-buying levelled against two aspirants in the Bongo Constituency by Prof. Ephraim Avea Nsoh.

Prof. Avea Nsoh, who was also an aspirant in the primaries in the constituency, accused Edward Bawa and Charles Bawa Dua of camping delegates and inducing them with goodies to vote in their favour.

The academic claimed that the two had camped almost all the delegates on the eve of the election in their respective residences, denying him access and showering them with huge sums of money that influenced their decisions in the primaries.

But reacting to this in an interview on State of Our Nation, Mr. Akamukre said the allegations cannot be taken wholly as factual since there is no prove.

He asserted that it is common to have defeated candidates in an election make such allegations regardless of how credible the process is.

“When Adu Boahen lost election, what did he say? He said that it was a stolen verdict and the whole NPP and PNC were asked to stay off from parliamentary elections in 1992. So anytime, there’s an elections and somebody happens not to win, (such allegations are likely to pop up)”.
