Delegates of the National Democratic Congress in the Navrongo Central Constituency have declined to allow for the incumbent Member of Parliament Sampson Tangombu Chiragia to have a second term in parliament.
This is because he has lost in the party’s parliamentary primaries held today in the constituency.
Mr. Chiragia affectionately known as S.T.C is serving his first term as MP for the constituency and was seeking the mandate of delegates to seek re-election in the 2024 Elections on the party’s ticket.
Hours before the declaration of results, he had indicated his preparedness to hold a big party in his house to celebrate his anticipated victory which he was very confident about.
Unfortunately, he polled 447 votes, losing the parliamentary bid to Simon Akibange Aworigo, who obtained 475 votes.
The other two contenders in the race, Pius Ayemva Avio and Jacob Paarechuga Anankware scored 135 and 88 votes respectively.
Mr. Tangombu Chiragia went to parliament in 2021 after he secured a total of 26,947 votes in the 2020 general elections to beat the NPP’s Tangoba Abayage who only managed 15,821 votes.
