The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region says it will capitalise on flaws of the opposition National Democratic Congress during its just ended parliamentary and presidential primaries to maximise its chances in the 2024 Elections.
While admitting that the primaries were generally smooth and incident-free, Deputy Upper East Regional Communication Director of the NPP, Andrews Atariwini stated that the party will, regardless, make political capital out of the minor flaws that occurred and as well punch holes into some of the decisions that were taken to its gain.
“The NDC did well but the NPP will also capitalize on some of the minor flaws or some of the names that are coming up, the decision they took, we will try to punch holes into them, make some good political narrative from them and then I believe that will be the focus going forward. Just to turn the tide for our good,” he stated in an interview on Bolgatanga-based A1 Radio.
He, however, commended the opposition party for conducting a seamless exercise while urging his party to building consensus in its decision-making especially in the election of parliamentary candidates so that it will remain united to face the NDC in the 2024 Elections.
The NDC concluded its internal reorganization exercise with the election of parliamentary and presidential candidates across the country.
The primaries, which were held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, were generally peaceful except in few instances where incidents of violence were recorded.
The exercise saw the election of former president, John Dramani Mahama as flagbearer with about 17 incumbent Members of Parliament – 4 from the Upper East Region who sought to be re-elected, losing their bids.
