Presidential hopeful of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko says not everyone, who is seeking to be president, has what it takes to lead the country.

Mr. Agyarko noted that leadership is a daunting task and risky and thus, requires  someone with requisite experience and qualities to surmount  the challenges that come with the position.

“Leadership is a very difficult, risky enterprise. It’s also a very lonely position to occupy and therefore, if you are not strong, if you don’t have the tenacity of purpose to clink on what you set out to do, somewhere along the line, you begin watering and you’ll give up,” he stated in an interview on JoyNews.

He argued that although others seeking to occupy the presidency may mean well for country and think they are capable, they will be faced with the stark reality of their capabilities if they are elected.

“A lot of people will come with good intentions, a lot of people will come with a certain capacity, a lot of people will come with tenacity but the task itself will break you as you go along”.

Mr. Agyarko, however, believes he has all what it takes to lead the country and ensure its transformation.

According to him, the difficulties he faced in his youthful age and his experience in his career has shaped and positioned him well for the topmost job in the country.

“I have had the good fortune of being in a very difficult and tough situations throughout my banking career and that the fact that I was able to survive a lot of them gives me a certain impression of myself”.

He added, “My experience shaped in a certain way that I appreciate, it gave me a sense of timing, it gave me a sense of exercising authority in fluid situations, it gave me a sense of empathy”.

Boakye Agyarko, who served as Minister of Energy from 2017 to 2018, is seeking to succeed Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as leader of the governing party.

He is, however, facing tough competition from Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, serial contestant Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and MP for Assin Central Constituency, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, who are tipped frontrunners as well as 6 others.

The party has scheduled Saturday, August 26, to hold a Special Delegates Conference in line with its constitution to whittle the number of aspirants down.

It will then hold the main primary on November 6, in which one of the aspirants is expected to obtain, at least, more than 50 percent of the votes to be declared leader of the party.
