A member of the governing New Patriotic Party’s Communication Team, Wunison Khan Jambeidu is advising flagbearer aspirants of the party to focus on selling their messages to the party’s electoral college instead of trying to malign the Vice-President, who is also a contender in the race.
According to Mr. Khan Jambeidu, some of the flagbearer aspirants have dedicated their campaigns to bastardizing the candidature of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
But that, for him, is a misplaced campaign strategy.
“The issue of the economy is coming up because Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been at the very top echelon when it comes to the economy. That’s why I said it’s a targeted campaign. Unfortunate as it is and I’m saying that it’s a misplaced target, it’s misplaced because the delegates are discerning, the delegates know what they’re looking for.
At this particular point in time, the delegates do not care whether it’s Russia/Ukraine War that’s as a result of the crisis, the delegates are concerned about the one who can help us break the 8. The delegates are concerned about the one who will have their welfare,” he said.
He urged them to, instead, redirect their focus to convincing the delegates with their track records and capabilities of aiding the party win the 2024 Elections should they be given the mandate.
“I think it will serve each and everyone of them well to focus on the delegates. This is a delegates based election. they should tell the people what they’ve done for this party, what they’ve done for grassroots of this party, what they have done to be able to improve the welfare of the people of this party, the capacity to be able to lead this party, the capacity to ensure that you’ll be able a formidable candidate against John Dramani Mahama. We expect that from each and everyone of them,” he advised.
A number of the flagbearer aspirants of the party have called into question the competence of government officials managing the economy.
While disputing claims by the Akufo-Addo’s administration that the country’s economic turmoil is as a result of the geopolitical tension between Russia and Ukraine as well as the Covid-19 pandemic, the aspirants particularly MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong contended that the country would not have been plunged into crises if the managers of the economy were on top of their job.
Others including former Trades and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen have also raised concerns about the size of government, promising to run a smaller and an efficient government if they sail through the party’s internal contest and eventually, become president.
But Mr. Khan Jambeidu, who believes these criticisms are directed at the Vice-President, questioned why some of the aspirants did not resign from their positions in the government if they were really concerned about its size.
