Founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe is accusing president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of betraying his long term contender for the party’s flagbearer position, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.
According to Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe, the NPP has a well defined order of succession which recognises long service and seniority in the election of leaders.
He said it was on the basis of this that Mr. Kyerematen, in 2007, stepped down for Nana Addo to lead the party.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe, therefore, expected the president to support the former Trades Minister’s bid to succeed him as flagbearer of the NPP.
But the president, he observed, betrayed Mr. Kyerematen and thwarted his efforts to lead the party, resulting in his withdrawal from the race.
“This party has always got a succession plan and that brings the point about Alan being stabbed in the back. And it’s unfortunate that is being by my friend Nana Akufo-Addo”.
Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, yesterday, announced his withdrawal from the flagbearer contest, citing bias in favour of a particular candidate, intimidation of delegates and attacks on his supporters in the just ended Super Delegates Conference of the party as basis for his decision.
Speaking in an interview on TV3, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe urged him to run for the presidency in 2024 as an independent candidate.
He said Mr. Kyerematen is a better candidate than all those seeking the Office of president and is likely to drum up massive support for his bid if he contest the elections.
He, thus, urged the former Trade and Minister to test his national popularity by contesting the 2024 Elections as independent candidate.
