Upper East Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party, Anthony Namoo says the rank and file of the party already know whom they will elect as a presidential candidate .
Mr. Namoo stated that the NPP electoral college have a good sense of judgement and already, have settled on a candidate, who they are certain, will be accepted by Ghanaians in the 2024 Elections as president.
He said although he could not mention a name because he is a “moderator” in the electoral process, the Special Delegates Congress of the party, which is likely to happen, will give a hint of who that person is.
“I know we already know the person that is going to be elected. We we know already, the grassroots, they know what Ghanaians want and they want to mirror that. I’m sure very soon, you’ll get to know. It’s an internal elections so I cannot come and sit here and propagate somebody campaign (as a party chairman,” he stated in an interview on State of Our Nation.
He added that the said candidate has the worthwhile and the human resources at his disposal to effectively steer the affairs of the country if he is given the mandate.
“The person has the worthwhile. He has all the people, human resources to do that”.
The NPP is preparing to hold its presidential primary later this year to elect President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s successor.
Already, about 10 people have picked nominations to bid for the position.
They include Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; former Trade Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen; former Agriculture minister, Dr. Afriyie Akoto; former General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong among a host of others.
But political watchers say the contest is between the Vice President and Mr. Kyerematen.
While Mr. Kyerematen’s supoorters argue it is his turn since he has been in the “queue” for long, loyalists of Dr. Bawumia say it is only appropriate to award the Vice President and the Dombo faction of the tradition for their loyalty and hard work.
