Robert Ajene, a member of the council of elders of the governing New Patriotic Party, NPP in the Upper East Region, has said , prior to the conduct of the super delegates conference, it was widely rumoured that Alan Kyeremanteng intended to form his own political party.

Speaking Thursday on the State of Our Nation, Mr. Ajene, says Alan’s decision to withdraw from the flagbearer contest of the party gives credence to what was rumoured.

“4, 5 months back, even before these things happened, before the voting, there were wild rumours that Alan was forming a party. There were wild rumours.  So when I heard a few days ago that he might either go independent or form a party, then I said the smoke that we heard that is the fire that is now coming,” he stated.

Alan Kyeremanteng officially wrote to the party, announcing his decision not to contest the November 4 primaries of the party.

This was after he placed third in the August Super delegates conference.

In the letter indicating his withdrawal, Mr. Kyeremanteng cited an assault on his supporter and attempts to skew the elections to favour a particular aspirant.

But Speaking on the State of Our Nation, Thursday, Mr Ajene said his withdrawal could also be that Mr. Kyeremanteng sensed a heavy defeat in the main primary in November.

“If you ask me what inferences do I make of his action, I think he has now basically, completely and sincerely seen that there is no need to continue the competition, ‘let me throw in the towel’”.

“And if that is what he has done, I  expected him to say ‘let me now sit back and tell Bawumia, I have thrown in my town like a boxer, you can say it is knock down, it doesn’t matter. But God bless you, I’m with you’”.
