Bono Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe popularly known as Abronye DC has announced that he will not take part in the upcoming Special Delegates Conference of the party scheduled to come off on Saturday August 26, 2023.
According to the outspoken regional chairman of the NPP, his decision to refrain from the August 26 exercise is due to gross indiscipline and misconduct by coordinators of some of the presidential candidate aspirants.
These coordinators, who are regional party officers, he claimed, have not only been gossiping unnecessarily but are playing same role for more than 5 aspirants and promising each of them the most votes.
He added that the said coordinators “have made it a point to destroy some delegates or party officers in order to make money from them”.
Abronye DC also attributed his decision not to partake in the process to falsehoods being peddled against him by a spokesperson for one of the flag-bearer hopefuls.
He stated that the said spokesperson, who had campaigned vigorously against his re-election as regional chairman, is going about claiming he has solicited money from one of the aspirants and is campaigning for him.
Abronye DC argued that “All constituency Chairmen and their Executives, including polling station executives in the Bono Region, would testify that I have never engaged them to campaign for a particular candidate. Therefore, the said presidential (candidate) aspirant spokesperson and his colleagues’ campaign coordinators who want to hijack the party, including other twin regions, are lying”.
“In view of the above, I would like to abstain from the process and will not take part in the voting process,” he said.
The NPP will, on Saturday, August 26, 2023, hold a Special Delegates Conference to whittle down the number of aspirants to 5.
The exercise has become necessary following the decision of the party’s vetting committee to clear all 10 aspirants to contest the flagbearer position.
Per the party’s constitution, the number of aspirants going into the main primary should not be more than 5.
If they are more than that in number, a Special Delegates Conference will be held to trim down the number.
