Johnson Ayine, an aspiring communications officer of the New Patriotic Party, has called for renewed grassroots mobilization and internal discipline as the party works to rebuild ahead of future elections.

Speaking on Dreamz FM, Mr Ayine said weak orientation, poor communication, and unrealistic expectations among party members are undermining the effectiveness of its structures at the polling station level.

He said many grassroots executives lack clarity about their roles, leading to apathy and dissatisfaction among supporters.

“Becoming a party executive is voluntary work,” Mr Ayine said. “But many people expect financial rewards because they have not been properly oriented.”

He criticized what he described as a “waiting culture,” where polling station executives expect support from constituency leaders, who in turn wait for regional and national executives, creating a cycle of inaction.

Mr Ayine urged party leaders to prioritize training and capacity-building programs to educate members about their responsibilities and the voluntary nature of political work.

He also emphasized the need for a strong membership drive, noting that grassroots engagement is critical to electoral success.

“The NPP needs executives who will go out and bring people into the party, not those who sit and wait for incentives,” he said.

Mr Ayine warned that the growing influence of social media platforms such as TikTok is shaping political opinions, particularly among young people, making it harder to win support without deliberate engagement.

He further called for improved internal communication and discipline, cautioning party members against public complaints that could damage the party’s image.

“The best way to attract new members is to make existing members appealing,” he said. “If we fix our internal culture, people will naturally come.”
