Upper East Regional Women Organizer of the National Democratic Congress, Fawzia Abagnamah Yakubu, is urging women to get actively involved in politics.
Apart from calling on them to be actively involved in politics, she is urging women to endeavor to contest for various positions.
Addressing members of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network, at the Navrongo Community Health Nurses’ Training College, Madam Fawzia notes that many women who are actively engaged in politics often face name-calling.
This according to her often gets worse if a woman decides to contest for a political position.
She is, however, urging women not to be deterred by such name-calling and rather push to change the status quo.
She indicates that the NDC remains the only party in Ghana that has shown enough commitment to women’s empowerment including appointing the first female running mate.
“Let’s take up leadership positions. Women should contest and rally behind women contestants. Don’t also let yourselves to only WOCOMs. No matter the position, let us also contest. Don’t be worried about challenges.
These days, if you’re a woman and you’re actively involved in politics, they say you’re a loose person or a prostitute. Don’t let those things deter you. For the name calling, whether you contest or not, they will call you names.” She admonished members of TEIN at Navrongo Community Health Nurses’ Training College.
