ROGER ABUGRE, ASSEMBLY MEMBER FOR APUWONGO-YIKENE

Assembly Member for the Apuwongo-Yikene Electoral Area in the Bongo District has decried the deplorable nature of roads in the area.

Speaking in an interview on Breakfast Today, Roger Abugre said road networks in the two communities are in a poor state, endangering the lives of commuters and hindering economic activities.

“The roads network in Puwongo and Yikene is so terrible and bad. It’s not good at all especially the main stretch that’s leading from Puwongo -Yikene to Yorogo,” he cried out .

The major bridge linking the area to the rest of the district and the region, Mr. Abugre disclosed, was, last year, washed away following  torrential rainfalls.

The Assembly Member said although he reported the matter to the District Assembly and the Department of Feeder Roads, the bridge is yet to be fixed.

He said the assembly had sent an engineer to assess the situation but did not take any action after the assessment.

“The main bridge, as I speak now, a car cannot even pass there again. Even a motor king can’t pass through it. The culvert is still there but it caved in or should I say it was washed away and this happened last year around October. we cried so loudly to the assembly and Feeder Roads. It’s like they’ve turned a deaf ear to us”.

The communities, realizing that they could not count on local authority to fix their problem, took it upon themselves to have it repaired.

They then requested a vehicle from the assembly to enable them convey gravels to construct a temporal bridge.

But the District Assembly turned their request down with the excuse that the vehicle had broken down. Mr. Abugre said residents were left with no option but to carry gravels on their heads to construct the bridge.

But that has also been washed away following recent rains, he disclosed.

“We the community members mobilized, came out, carried stone ourselves with Motor King and on our heads. So that we could manage to pass. But this recent rains again have caused another havoc. So the state and nature of the roads now is so dangerous to the lives of the people in the community”.

The helpless assemblyman said he has again brought the issue to the attention of the Assembly and the Department of Feeder Roads.

And the District Assembly, again, has sent an engineer to assess the situation with no sign of moving to repair the road.
