Widows and Orphans Movement (WOM), a non profit organization in partnership with Actionaid Ghana has begun training programs for women groups in the Nabdam and Talensi Districts of the Upper East Region on Agribusiness Management and Proper book keeping techniques.

The 6 days training which started on Thursday, August 10, 2023 will benefit women farmers from across 6 different communities in both districts.

The beneficiary communities include Baare, Sakpal-Tengre, Balungu, Gane-Asonge, Zanlerigu and Sakote.

The program is aimed at improving marketing skills, determining profit and loss and offering adequate understanding of booking keeping by the use of stones, sticks among others to ensure successful agribusiness for the rural women farmers.

Official from the Business Advisory Center (BAC) of the Talensi District was brought on board as facilitator to train the women farmers.

Speaking to Dreamz News, the Project Officer for the Movement, Nancy Awinbisa Amiziah noted that, most of the women have inadequate understanding of basic accounting principles such as record keeping, profit and loss calculation and marketing.

She said, the aim is to empower the women in terms of agribusiness management, that’s profit and loss, marketing and keeping records.

Miss Awinbisa said, “We are unearthing good book keeping practices. So this training is focusing on profit and loss determination, marketing and record keeping using adult learning tools such as stones, tally-cards and sticks to keep records of what goes on in their businesses and farming activities”.

“At the end of the day, they will be able to calculate how much they have spent in farming or how much they have spent in purchasing whatever they are going to sell. It will help them determine the price to sell to be able to attract market so that at the end of the day, they would be making profit” – She added.

Miss Awinbisa was confident that, the training will have positive impacts on their activities as beneficiaries will be able to monitor the progress of their farming businesses.
