Former National Youth Organiser aspirant of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Prince Kamal Gumah has taken on a flagbearer aspirant of the party whom he describes as Mr. No Name.
According to Prince Kamal Gumah, while other presidential candidate aspirants particularly the Vice-President dedicate their lives to the service of the party and attending to the needs of party members, the said aspirant sits in his comfort zone and expects to be elected the party’s flagbearer because he believes leadership of the NPP is his birth right.
“He (Dr. Bawumia) was there when party members need him. Not like Mr. No name seating down in your air conditions car and office believing that it’s your birthright to lead the party”.
For him, “if you can’t be there for the party members you have no business seeking to lead them”.
He extolled Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s commitment to the cause of the NPP, describing him as a game changer.
The Vice-President’s sudden dominance in the country’s political space particularly in the NPP and the massive support he is enjoying in his bid to lead the party, Prince Gumah noted, are as a result of his toil for it and its members over the years.
“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s political success currently is bonded out of hard work and dedication to the party from helping 275 Mps in their primaries and their general election in 2020, helping polling station executives during their election, area coordinators, constituency executives during their elections. Paying party memberships card to all delegates. This has never been done in the history of NPP”.
His comments come on the heels of preparations ahead of the party’s special delegates conference scheduled to come off on August 26.
The Vetting Committee of the NPP vetted and approved all 10 aspirants who picked nominations to run for the position.
Per its rules, it will hold special delegates conference to trim the number down to 5.
It has since balloted for the positions of the candidates and all seem to be set for the August 26’s congress and the main one in November.
Political watchers say the contest is between the Vice-President and former Trades Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.
Whiles Mr. Kyerematen’s supporters insist it is his turn to be made the party’s flagbearer since he has been in the “queue” for long, some loyalists of Dr. Bawumia say it is high time the NPP purged itself of the Akan party tag by electing the Vice-president who is from the North of the country to lead it.
