Former Member of Parliament for Binduri Constituency, Dr. Robert Baba Kuganab-Lem has expressed concern about the kind people the newly elected parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the constituency, Issifu Mahmoud surrounds himself with.
Dr. Kuganab-Lem said although Mr. Mahmoud stands a chance of winning the seat for the NDC, those around him are treacherous people who do not have the party at heart.
The said persons, he claimed, are in bed with the governing New Patriotic Party and were the masterminds of his defeat in the 2020 Elections to the NPP’s Abdulai Abanga and his recent defeat in the NDC’s primaries to Mr. Mahmoud.
“I have confidence in him. He is the best candidate because he has emerged victorious. what I’m honestly deflated about is the fact that he was supported by treacherous people, people who sold NDC in the past and are likely to sell NDC in the present,” he told James Nana Tsiquaye on Breakfast Today.
Describing them as evil and vicious, Dr. Kuganab-Lem said although his contender, Mr. Mahmoud was not their favourite, they did everything including seeking support from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to ensure that he won just to get back at him.
He cautioned the party’s candidate to be wary of them as they could also plot his defeat in the General Elections in 2024.
Dr. Robert Baba Kuganab-Lem joined a tall list of MPs for the Binduri Constituency who failed in their bid for re-election.
He entered Parliament in 2017 after beating the then NPP’s candidate, Abdulai Abanga in the 2016 elections.
However, in 2020, Mr. Abanga stopped his bid to break the 1-term jinx in the parliamentary history of the constituency.
His attempt to stage a comeback in the 2024 Elections was also quashed by legal practitioner, Issifu Mahmoud, who, he claimed, was aided by vicious persons within the NDC to beat him.
