The president of Regentropfen College of Applied Sciences Rev. Dr. Moses Asaah Awinongya has registered his displeasure over what he described as poor leadership attitude towards citizens in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region.

According to him, duty bearers who are put in charge to solve critical and basic concerns of the people in the area appear unconcerned about the plight of the people.

“Bongo District is one of the oldest districts in the country. I was there when they were inaugurating it. I think it was 1988, very long ago. But districts I have seen come up 20 years later, are better the district,” he lamented.

“We are saying we don’t see (the challenges) or we don’t care? These are the questions that I ask myself. And I’m not talking about whichever political party is in power.

I am not talking about the leadership attitude towards the people who entrusted their welfare to them. It is not enough to tell me plans are far advanced. Can you put that in quantitative terms? What plans are they? How do I measure advancement?”

He said one of the issues begging for attention is the deteriorated road linking Namoo and the District capital which is creating inconvenience for commuters.

He stated that, the bad nature of the road is a threat to citizens especially pregnant women from Namoo and its surrounding communities seeking healthcare at the Bongo District Hospital.

“The road network is not good, so if you’re coming to Bolga, you are going to pay heavily for it. These are people who do not have much but are going to give out so much money to be able to come to Bolga to do business”.

He added, “If a pregnant having complications needs to get to Bongo Hospital from Namoo or Zorko, let’s ask ourselves, what’s the chance of survival of this women? Because the roads are not good, most likely the person will be on motorbike, pregnant woman with complications on motorbike and only God knows”.

Mr. Asaah Awinongya, who was speaking in an interview on Breakfast Today, wondered if  leadership of the area are there to better the lives of residents or for their selfish interest.
