A member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) communication team in the Upper East party, Johnson Ayine, says youngsters in the country are inspired by the leadership of the party’s leader, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and are longing to join the party.
Speaking during Breakfast Today on Dreamz FM, Ayine said the party’s efforts to recruit new members have been buoyed by young people looking to leaders who represent innovation and opportunity.
“Every young person is looking up to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” Mr. Ayine said. “He’s the one that you want yourself or your child to be like in the future. So, I do believe that all of you would like to go for him.”
Mr. Ayine also praised the legacy of Dr. Bawumia’s tenure in office, particularly his push for digitalisation and modern approaches to national challenges.
He noted that topics such as digital transformation continue to resonate strongly with the youth across the party’s base. “Since his exit from power, we are more talking about things that the youth were so impressed about, digitalisation, the innovative way of solving problems, and doing things,” Mr. Ayine said.
The comments come as the NPP intensifies its party membership registration, part of a nationwide push to expand the party’s grassroots support ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In January, former Vice President Bawumia secured a decisive victory in the party’s presidential primary, winning the NPP flagbearer race with a strong majority of votes to lead the party into the next national election cycle.
