Michael Nangena, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication officer for Talensi, has highlighted the contributions of local Members of Parliament (MPs) toward regional development, responding to recent political commentary on their performance.
Speaking on Breakfast Today on Dreamz FM hosted by James Nana Tsiquaye, Mr. Nangena emphasized that both collective and individual efforts by MPs are producing tangible benefits for the Upper East Region.
“In terms of the efforts of our MPs, I agree we have collective efforts and individual efforts, and in both, we cannot say our MPs are not living up to expectations,” he said, noting that collaborative initiatives have already delivered projects benefiting constituents and are expected to continue.
Addressing debates about the 15 NDC MPs in the Upper East Region, Mr. Nangena explained that some criticism stems from comparisons with previous administrations. His remarks clarified the party’s position on MP effectiveness and ongoing development efforts, stressing the importance of recognizing progress while continuing dialogue on accountability and infrastructure needs.
“The work of our MPs demonstrates the commitment to ensuring that development remains a priority in the Upper East Region,” he added.
Meanwhile, Johnson Ayine, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Upper East Regional communication team, urged the media to intensify scrutiny of MPs in the region.
Speaking on the same show, Mr. Ayine emphasized that constructive criticism and public pressure are vital for ensuring elected officials fulfil their responsibilities towards constituents.
“I am happy the media in the Upper East are now turning our attention to our MPs because this is the way to go,” Mr. Ayine said. “We ought to put pressure and criticize them so they do the needful for the people of Upper East Region.”
He also highlighted the lack of visible advocacy from MPs, stressing that accountability is crucial for driving development and addressing community needs.
