Investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor has revealed that former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah had stashed more cash at her Abelemkpe residence than was reportedly stolen by her house helps.

On July 24, 2023, Ms. Dapaah, who had resigned from her position after it emerged that she had kept substantial amounts of monies in her home, was arrested by the OSP and a search conducted at her 3 homes located in different parts of Accra.

It has now emerged that officials of the OSP discovered cash sums of $590,000 and GH¢2.73 million during the search at her Abelemkpe home.

The monies were immediately seized as the OSP suspects them to be proceeds of corruption and a directive issued for the freezing of all her bank accounts.

The former Sanitation Minister is said to have 4 bank accounts with Prudential Bank and 2 with SGSSB.

Further probe by the OSP has found $5 million and GH¢48 million in 2 of her Prudential Bank accounts, JoyNews reports.

The OSP is said to have also found GH¢1 million in investments and GH¢700,000 in cash at her Societe General Bank accounts.

Meanwhile, the OSP has filed an application at an Accra High Court seeking approval of its seizure of the cash and the freezing of her accounts.

The court has set August 17, 2023 to rule on the matter.
