Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu is questioning how the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) intends to secure another electoral victory in 2024 when some members of the party are at loggerheads and do not exchange pleasantries.
He says individuals who contested elections are unable to talk and work together to secure victory. Rather, some are hoping that those who win the Internal contest will fail so that they can subsequently take their turn to lead.
Speaking during the inauguration of a group known as RRU4DMB, Mr. Yakubu, says such actions do not help the progress of the party.
“You can’t go and campaign for someone because you lose, you decide that ‘well, he should go and do his thing. Next time he will lose and me too I’ll go there’. The person who wins says, ‘I pity you, you think you’re wise?’ The two are at loggerheads.
You see your friend that you contested with, you pass, you don’t even greet the person and you claim you are in the same party. How do you win elections? How do you win elections?” he questioned.
The Minister says the NPP remains the best party in the world having implemented series of social interventions as he calls for close collaboration adding members of the party are finished if they allow the power the party is currently enjoying to slip away.
“NPP is the best party in this world. A party that is centre right but thinks about the people. Centre right parties usually don’t do social things but this is a party that is thinking about the population of Ghana. This is a party that is thinking about we the Northerners”.
Mr. Yakubu also advocates the election of Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s presidential candidate.
According to him, electing the Vice-President will demystify the widely held view that the NPP is an Akan party.
“They (NDC) wouldn’t come and do anything but last minute they’d come and tell you NDC is a Northern party. Then you have someone who have got the qualities, you have someone who can lead this party , you have someone as a Northern, for you to kill NDC propaganda, what do you need to do? Isn’t that simple?”
