REX ASANGA- MCE, BOLGATANGA

Municipal Chief Executive for Bolgatanga, Rex Asanga has announced that he will not contest the Bolgatanga Central seat again in 2024.

Mr. Asanga made attempts for the seat on two occasions – in the 2016 and 2020 Elections on the ticket of the governing New Patriotic Party.

He, however, lost on both occasions to the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC’s) Isaac Adongo who currently occupies the seat.

Mr. Asanga was, subsequently in 2021, appointed as MCE for the area.

Having had a smooth tenure as MCE, many particularly members of the NPP were expecting him to stage a comeback and probably, snatch the seat from the NDC this time around.

But speaking in an interview on Breakfast News, Mr. Asanga said he will not be seeking to be elected again in 2024.

His decision, he explained, is to pave way for youngsters in the party who are doing creditably to also get the chance to lead the party’s quest for the seat while he concentrate on his job as MCE.

“You know the position of the MCE is very busy one. My hands are full. There are other young people in the party that are coming up and who are doing quite great things for the party. Once I have this position, I think I should focus and concentrate on the work and allow the next generation to come up,” he stated.

He added, “I don’t want to hang on to that position, combining the MCE work and then the Parliamentary candidate work, that’s going to be a very tough one for me and I don’t think that it’s necessary to do that. We should get somebody else who will focus on the campaign while I do what the president has asked me to do. So that’s my decision”.
