Parliamentary candidate aspirant of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Rawfield Nyaaba Abileo has expressed confidence of snatching the seat for the NPP in 2024 if he is elected the party’s parliamentary candidate.
According to Mr. Rawfield, although the constituency has largely been a safe zone for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), he has the right qualities and a broad appeal to cause an upset in the General Elections and annex the seat for the party.
“We need someone who will be able to attract floating voters, who we will be able to lure other people from other parties. It has ever happened here, 2000, 2004, PNC candidate won, he was somebody who was appealing to the people, appealing to the grassroots, who was down to earth and I think I am in that position. I am confident of beating Isaac Adongo,” he told the media.
He made these remarks after successfully filing his nomination on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 to contest the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.
Mr. Rawfield, who is the immediate past Presiding Member for the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly, is the second person to officially enter the race for the NPP’s ticket in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency after the Upper East Regional Secretary of the party, Elvis Figo Awonekai filed his nomination last week.
Mr. Rawfield is, however, certain of victory in the primaries.
He explained that his decision to run for the position was informed by calls on him by party members, who, he believes, are impressed with his services to the party over the years and will give him the nod to contest the 2024 polls on the ticket of the party.
“I have the chance because I have won several elections and I am with them. I won the last election when I contested the constituency First Vice and I know most of them voted for me and still have the trust that they will still vote for me,” he said.
