Johnson Ayine, an aspiring Communication Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region, has claimed that the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, appears more apprehensive about parliamentary primaries than general elections.

Speaking on State of Our Nation on Wednesday, Mr. Ayine observed that the MP’s recent visibility suggests growing internal pressure within the National Democratic Congress (NDC). According to him, some party members are already preparing to challenge Mr. Adongo in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.

Mr. Ayine argued that this internal competition has compelled the MP—known for his outspoken nature—to actively engage party stakeholders and intensify efforts to lobby for development in the constituency.

Ahead of the 2024 general elections, the NDC did not conduct parliamentary primaries in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency, allowing Mr. Adongo to run unopposed and subsequently secure victory in the main election.

With the NDC steadily strengthening its foothold in Bolgatanga Central, Mr. Ayine believes Mr. Adongo is now more focused on potential internal party challenges than on the general election.

“What Adongo is doing today is commendable. Had that young man not come out early like this, he wouldn’t have been visible in the constituency like he is doing now. I think that if their primaries become competitive, we will get good results from them. If you look at Adongo , I can say that he is more afraid of primaries than the general election because with the general election, he thinks he can easily win but with the primaries.”
