Member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Filson Awankua has slammed the Bolgatanga Central Member of Parliament, Isaac Adongo over the latter’s constant criticism of the Vice President.
According to Mr. Awanku, the MP, instead of lobbying Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and other government officials for development for his constituency, has resorted to needless attacks on them, depriving his constituents of the needed development.
“If your entire business as an MP is not to lobby the government in power and bring resources to your people but that you’re going to make comedy, you’re joking with the lives of the people, attacking the Vice President? That’s your focus? So that they will clap for you at your conferences?”
He argued that while Mr. Adongo has a responsibility to keep the executive in check as a member of the legislature, it is also his duty to address the developmental needs of his constituents and thus, must collaborate with members of the executive rather than making them his foes.
“You could hold the government in check but some of the utterances that some of them make, (like) ‘Walewale Adam Smith’, what kind of joke is that?”
He believes the MP would have been in a better position to influence government’s policies and initiatives in favour of his constituents if he had built a cordial relationship with particularly the Vice President.
Isaac Adongo is a known critic of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and has, on several occasions, taken the Vice President on over his handling of the country’s economy.
In one of his usual criticisms of the Second Gentleman of the land, Mr. Adongo compared him to Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire, who gained notoriety for scoring own goals in favour of his opponents.
But Mr. Awankua is of the view that such utterances are needless and do not speak well of the MP.
