A member of the Upper East Regional Communications Team of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Michael Nangena, has defended the NDC government over what critics describe as a delay in the passage and assent of the LGBTQ Bill.
Speaking on Dreamz FM’s Breakfast Today show, Mr Nangena clarified that the bill is not a government bill but a private members’ bill, and that Members of Parliament have the mandate to thoroughly go through it before it can reach the president’s desk for assent.
He said no one can blame the president for any delay in the passage and assent of the bill.
Mr Nangena also expressed confidence that President John Dramani Mahama’s position on the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill has not changed and will never change.
“The presidency doesn’t come in here, for people to say the NDC isn’t walking its talk,” he said.
He urged Ghanaians to remain calm and allow parliament to do its work, noting that the bill entails a lot and must be properly handled in parliament to avoid future complications after assent.
