Political analyst Fidelis Aturah Ayam has delivered a blunt assessment of the New Patriotic Party’s electoral defeat, arguing that weaknesses within the party structure, not government alone, were responsible for its loss of power.

Speaking on Dreamz FM’s The State of Our Nation, Mr. Ayam said the NPP must undertake a comprehensive restructuring exercise if it hopes to return to government.

“I have said it several times: the party failed itself, not necessarily the government. The structures of the party were unable to hold the government accountable,” he asserted.

According to him, a strong political party must be capable of challenging and guiding its own government whenever policies and actions threaten its political fortunes.

He argued that the NPP’s internal leadership failed to effectively communicate public concerns to the government, resulting in decisions that ultimately damaged the party’s image and cost it electoral support.

“The next national chairman will be critical to the party’s survival. The party needs someone who has the courage and capacity to hold the government accountable and protect the interests of the party,” he said.

Mr. Ayam noted that several prominent names have emerged in discussions about the NPP’s future leadership but declined to endorse any individual candidate.

Instead, he urged party delegates to elect leaders capable of rebuilding confidence in the party and preventing a repeat of the mistakes that contributed to its electoral setback.

“The future of the NPP depends on choosing leaders who can strengthen the party structure and ensure government actions align with the expectations of supporters,” he concluded.
