Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Development Authority (NPP), Sulley Sambian has filed nominations to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the Bunkpurugu Constituency.
Addressing the media after filing his nomination at the party constituency office, Mr. Sambian, who is legal practitioner, assured the NPP of victory in the area in the General Elections if he is given the nod to represent the party.
He stated that he has the vigour and is poised to secure the seat for the NPP in 2024.
Recalling what he said was a painful defeat for the governing party in the constituency, the NDA CEO said he is the party’s surest bet to recapturing the seat in next year’s polls, adding that his mere entrance into the race for the party’s candidacy has sent shivers down the spines of the Member of Parliament for the area and his party, the NDC.
“I am a younger guy who is poised with a lot of energy to deliver this seat,” he stated.
“We got it (the seat) in 2012 and got it in 2016 and lost it painfully. We put all our energies in that election but we lost. I believe that I am the one that I can rescue this seat in 2024.
The NDC is afraid. Their MP is afraid. He knows that if I am on the ballot box, the gap that he beat our candidate with in 2020, he will suffer more than that. I will beat him not less than 2,000 votes”.
While expressing gratitude to party members for supporting his bid for the ticket, he pledged to unite the party for victory if he is elected as the parliamentary candidate and represent the constituency in manner that will meet the expectations of residence should he ultimately become their lawmaker.
“All I can say to the delegates is that I thank them very much for this show of love. I’ll not let you down. I will lead you in a manner that that will bring you satisfaction to all and sundry in this constituency”.
“ I have often stood for unity. If you check my campaign messages, if you check my write-up on social media, I often preach peace. I’m preaching peace because I know without peace, we cannot win the seat. Peace and unity is what we need”.
Bunkpurugu was among the over 30 seats the governing party lost in the 2020 Elections.
The party is currently organising elections in constituencies which are not occupied by it in preparations ahead of the 2024 Elections as it hopes to win more seats and regain its majority in Parliament.
