The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Constituency in the Upper East Region, Isaac Adongo, says the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is deliberately trying to stir up trouble for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government by raising what he describes as baseless allegations about sole-sourcing contracts under the Big Push initiative.
The Big Push controversy follows an investigation by The Fourth Estate, which revealed that the Ministry of Roads and Highways awarded 81 sole sourced contracts worth over GH₵73 billion in just seven months under the flagship Big Push road programme, with not a single one of the 107 contracts examined awarded through competitive tendering. The NPP Minority Caucus in Parliament has since called on the government to publish the names and scope of work of all the sole sourced contracts, while also raising concerns about partisan considerations in the awarding of the contracts.
Speaking in an interview on Dreamz FM, Mr. Adongo said the Big Push is a game changer for Ghana’s development, which he said his colleagues in the opposition are fully aware of, and have therefore deliberately decided to look for fault in it.
According to Mr. Adongo, the NPP knows the impact the Big Push will have on Ghana and is only trying to score cheap political points by raising allegations against it.
“Our friends are trying to find fault where there is none. They know that the Big Push will transform Ghana,” he said.
Mr. Adongo urged Ghanaians to disregard what he called baseless criticism from the opposition and focus on the development the Big Push initiative is bringing to the country.
