Peter Ayinbisa Ayamga, the Upper East Regional Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has described President Mahama’s District Chief Executive Nominee for the Bongo Constituency as competent enough to replace the late DCE, Joseph Akasake Abaa.

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Diana Asoketarige Ayamga, sister-in-law of the late Bongo District Chief Executive (DCE), Joseph Akasake Abaa, to serve as the new DCE, pending approval by the district assembly.

Her nomination comes just days before the burial of Mr. Abaa, scheduled for April 10, 2026. The late DCE passed away less than a year after his appointment, during which he was widely regarded as having made a strong start and renewed focus on the development of the Bongo District.

Reacting to the nomination on Tuesday during a discussion on the State of Our Nation, the Upper East Regional Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Ayamga Ayinbisa, described Diana Ayamga as a fitting replacement.

According to Mr. Ayinbisa, the decision not only ensures continuity in leadership but also offers some comfort to the bereaved family, as the position remains within their close circle.

He views her appointment as the best tribute to the departed DCE.

“When Joe died, Bongo was in tears so I have seen Diana as someone who is not just a family member but somebody who is qualified to occupy such a position. When you have someone from the immediate family of the late DCE is the best tribute to Joe. I see it as a way of wiping the tears of the family.” He said.

A former DCE for the area himself, Mr. Ayinbisa noted that the late Mr. Abaa had begun his tenure on a promising note and expressed confidence that Madam Ayamga is capable of continuing his work and sustaining the district’s development agenda.
